Lachlan Kelly spent many of the early years of his life watching on from the other side of the glass of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, as his brothers battled for life. Exposed to the health system in this way from a young age, Lachlan nurtured a passion for quality improvement and person-centred care – with an understanding that for many families, the hospital is a second home. As a dual citizen, with some of his brothers' care delivered in the USA, Lachlan was exposed to the groundbreaking Planetree family-centred accreditation, and worked closely with Joe DiMaggio Hospital in Florida as the first in the world to be accredited. Lachlan became more engaged with the hospital, through their Youth Advisory Council and working as a volunteer, before returning to Australia and setting up a not-for-profit 'Young Allies Foundation' to empower young people to make a positive impact on the lives of others, through acting as a bridge between the local community and paediatric hospitals. On a personal note, Lachlan brings insights into receiving and accessing healthcare from the LGBTQIA+ community viewpoint, and has firsthand experience with mental health services. His professional, consumer and young carer experiences give him a rare combination of valuable insights to enrich the patient journey, outcomes and experience.
Lachlan is currently based in London, with relevant and recent experience accessing healthcare in Australia (Queensland and Victoria), and commitment to improving healthcare systems across these locations through his lived, observed and professional experience - available for work in the UK and Australia (remotely).
